Description
The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Interior Architecture and Design (IAD) program.
We seek a dedicated educator who can prepare students to be innovative thinkers and practitioners of contemporary design. The ideal candidate is skilled at achieving a wide range of strong learning outcomes and has a noteworthy background in the practice of Interior Design. We seek a motivated educator who thrives in a studio-based learning environment and is committed to preparing students to think critically, work creatively, and enter the profession with confidence and skill.
Teaching responsibilities include a nine (9) credit teaching load each fall and spring semester (typically three studio courses per semester), as well as academic advising and service through departmental and college-wide committees. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and professional experience.
This position will begin Fall 2026.
Requirements
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture, Interior Design, Architecture, or a closely related field; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of college-level teaching experience or comparable professional experience with a demonstrated capacity for teaching at the undergraduate level.
Record of professional practice in interior architecture and design.
Experience with course development is preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in the design process, including research, concept development, visualization, and spatial problem-solving.
Expertise in relevant design software, including 3D CAD modeling and rendering tools, Adobe Creative Suite, VR, and related digital workflows is required.
Ability to teach, critique, and provide constructive feedback across multiple levels of the undergraduate curriculum.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach a full-time instructional load of 18 credits annually (9 credits each fall and spring semester).
Deliver courses in person, unless a course is expressly designated for virtual delivery by the Registrar and Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Advise undergraduate students and support their academic and professional development.
Provide timely, constructive feedback on student work and maintain clear communication with students.
Maintain course materials, learning management systems, attendance records, and grading in accordance with institutional policies and timelines.
Maintain the IAD Materials Resource Library.
Contribute and develop curriculum as requested and participate in ongoing program assessment.
Maintain awareness of current professional practices, tools, and standards within the interior architecture and design field.
Serve as an engaged member of the department and the broader MIAD community through committee work, meetings, and events.
Carry out responsibilities in accordance with policies and expectations outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
