Description
Overview
EXXCEL is looking for experienced Estimators and Conceptual Estimators to lead and assist the bidding of construction projects by preparing hard dollar estimates, proposals for new projects, as well as solicit subcontractor bids. This position will review and verify accuracy and completeness of all project documents received and also performs quantity take-offs, constructability review, and value engineering analysis for all projects received. This position will play a key role in departmental initiatives and improvements.
Responsibilities
- Work in conjunction with the bid team to prepare accurate bid proposals
- Assist with final assembly of estimate for presentation to owner
- Subcontractor solicitation during bidding process
- Review of the project construction schedule and assist in preparation of the general conditions
- Aid field operations with change order pricing
- Review of the construction documents for value engineering
- Preparation and pricing of value engineering items
- Assist Senior Estimators or Chief Estimator in the training of new estimators and field engineers
- Obtain labor burden and applicable insurance rates
- Maintain master subcontractor/vendor lists by trade. Solicit additional capable subcontractors.
- Provide technical assistance with project managers in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required. Assure clean hand-off of estimate, bidding information, drawings, specifications, etc to project management
- Ensures proper internal controls and maintenance/development of the organization’s historical estimating records for all entities
- Maintain and develop historical data for unit prices
- Performing quantity take-offs to develop in-house budgets to review against bids from subcontractors
- Developing scopes of work for each trade to bid projects
- Calling subcontractors to review scopes and verify if bidding
- Develop general conditions for review with senior management and project management
Experience & Attributes
- Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions and trade practices
- Communicates well both verbally and in writing, creates accurate and punctual reports, delivers presentations, shares information and ideas well with others, has good listening skills
- Technical-demonstrates the ability to perform mathematical calculations and possesses proficient data entry skills
- Ability to identify, assimilate and comprehend the critical elements if a situation to extract and interpret implications of courses of actions to attend to details of a problem.
- Breaks down problems into smaller components, understands underlying issues, can simplify and process complex issues, and understands the difference between critical details and unimportant facts
- Plans for and uses resources efficiently, always looks for ways to reduce costs, tracks assist in developing budgets
- Attentive to detail and accuracy, is committed to excellence, looks for improvements continuously, monitors quality levels, finds root cause of quality problems, owns/acts on quality problems
- Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office, Excel, RIB MC2 Interactive Cost Estimating software, and On-screen takeoff
- Knowledge of Viewpoint Project Manager and Microsoft Project scheduling desirable
- Full understanding of general contracting bidding requirements
- Experience in attending preconstruction Meetings
- Excellent decision making/problem solving skills
- Supervisory experience is a plus as well as solid communication skills and the ability to work well with all levels of management and company personnel
- Motivated, hardworking, team player
- Site experience, ability to walk the job site, climb ladders, and multi floor scaffolding
- Ability to lift objects at least 50lbs

Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred), Construction Management, Building Construction or similar discipline
- A minimum of five (5) years of estimating experience all divisions of work in the commercial construction industry
